Police Arrest Four Over Alleged Armed Robbery, Criminal Conspiracy

The Abia State Police Command, on Thursday, announced the arrest of four individuals in connection with criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, and also confirmed the recovery of a firearm.

In a statement released on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, named the arrested suspects as Jerry Chisom, male, 32 years, from Umagu Ugwuelle, Uturu, Abia State; Tochukwu Ugula, male, 32 years, from Amadi Achara, Uturu, Abia State; Chinonso Nwankwo, male, 28 years, from Nbaka Ugwuelle, Uturu, Abia State; and Kingsley Onyekeba, male, 19 years, from Arondizogu, Ideato, Imo State.

According to the PPRO, the suspects were apprehended during a police operation at a known criminal hideout located along the Uturu/Isuikwuato axis. Items seized during the operation included one locally made pistol, one knife, an iPhone 7 Plus, an Infinix mobile phone, and a laptop.

“On 16/07/2025 at about 15:49hrs, following a complaint lodged at the Uturu Divisional Police Headquarters regarding a group of suspected armed robbers who have been targeting and robbing students of Abia State University, Uturu, as well as other residents, officers from the division, with help from community members and under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, traced the suspects to their hideout and arrested four male individuals,” the statement read. It also noted that further investigation is underway to track down other members of the group who escaped.

She also noted that as part of the broader crackdown along the Uturu/Isuikwuato route, the command had located and dismantled additional criminal enclaves in a bid to cleanse the area of unlawful elements and their operations.

Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa encouraged the residents of Abia State to keep working with the police and to report any unusual activity or suspicious persons promptly.
