In a major escalation of tensions between the United States and Russia, U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed that he ordered two nuclear submarines to be deployed to “appropriate regions.” This move comes in direct response to comments made by Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Medvedev had on Thursday said that President Trump’s angry comments toward Russian officials were a “nervous reaction” and are evidence that Moscow is pursuing the right path.

His remarks were prompted by a post Trump made on Truth Social earlier that day, where the U.S. president labeled Medvedev a “failed” former leader and issued a stark warning, telling him to “watch his words.” Trump also accused Medvedev of “entering very dangerous territory.”

“If some words from the former president of Russia trigger such a nervous reaction from the high-and-mighty president of the United States, then Russia is doing everything right and will continue to proceed along its own path,” Medvedev, who currently serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, wrote on social media.

In his post, Medvedev also mocked Trump’s assertions that both the Russian and Indian economies were “dead” and in decline due to their supposed lack of cooperation with the United States.

Earlier, Medvedev had dismissed Trump’s calls for Moscow to bring an immediate end to its military operation in Ukraine. He had also rejected the threat of secondary sanctions against Russia’s energy clients, calling such measures “theatrical” and ineffective.

According to Medvedev, threats like these will not deter Russia from pursuing its long-term national security interests. He argued that they only serve to make Trump resemble former President Joe Biden, whom Trump frequently criticizes.

Responding on Friday, Trump posted again on Truth Social, calling Medvedev’s remarks “highly provocative” and “foolish and inflammatory.” These comments, Trump said, led him to take precautionary action.

“Based on the highly provocative statements… I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,” Trump stated.

The president stressed the power of words in diplomatic affairs, warning that careless rhetoric could have serious global consequences.

“Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances,” Trump said, expressing hope that the current situation would not spiral into a greater conflict.
