Carabao Cup semi-finals: Man City draw Newcastle as Chelsea wait on Arsenal or Palace

The English Football League has published the draw for the Carabao Cup semi-finals, confirming that Manchester City will take on defending champions Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will wait to find out their opponents following the Arsenal-Crystal Palace quarter-final.

The draw, announced late on Wednesday night via the EFL website, came after Manchester City’s 2–0 win over Brentford and Newcastle’s stoppage-time victory against Fulham, results that secured their spots in the final four of the competition.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chelsea came up against club legend Frank Lampard’s Cardiff City and claimed a late 3-1 away victory, with Garnacho and Neto both scoring twice.

A late Wednesday night update on the EFL website titled, “Carabao Cup Semi-Final draw revealed,” confirmed the semi-final matchups of the tournament.

According to the statement, holders Newcastle United will face Manchester City, while Chelsea will meet the winners of the quarter-final clash between Arsenal and Crystal Palace, set for Tuesday, December 23.

Manchester City sealed their semi-final place with a 2-0 triumph over Brentford on Wednesday, setting up a clash with Newcastle, who advanced after beating Fulham thanks to a stoppage-time header from Lewis Miley.

“Chelsea will learn their semi-final opponents following the Arsenal versus Crystal Palace encounter at the Emirates Stadium.

“The EFL said the first legs of the semi-final ties will be played in the week commencing January 12, 2026, while the second legs are scheduled for the week commencing February 2, 2026,” it read.
