Chelsea is pleased to confirm the signing of Brazil international Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 23-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract with the Blues that will keep him at the club until 2033, and he joins the squad immediately ahead of our FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final clash against Palmeiras.
“Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history,” Joao Pedro said. “They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So I am excited to join and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”
Joao Pedro began his career at Brazilian giants Fluminense, where he made a name for himself as a teenager with flair and a natural eye for goal. He scored 10 goals in 36 appearances for the Rio-based club before making the move to English football.
His progress continued at Watford, where he made 109 appearances and scored 24 goals over four seasons. During the 2022/23 campaign, he occasionally captained the side — all before the age of 22.
In 2023, Joao Pedro joined Brighton and made an immediate impression. He scored on his debut and ended the season with 19 goals across all competitions, finishing as the Seagulls’s joint-top scorer.
A dynamic and adaptable forward, Joao brings Premier League experience and has also represented Brazil internationally, earning three caps — the latest in a 2–1 victory over Colombia.
