Why I Left Nollywood, Former Child Actor Ikenta Opens Up on Alleged Industry Cabals

Popular Nollywood child actor, Ikenta Nollywood, who became a household name after playing the son of veteran actor Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, in several classic Nollywood movies, has finally spoken about why he stepped away from the movie industry.

In a video currently circulating across social media, with the link attached to this post, the former child star made shocking allegations about what he described as the negative forces that took over Nollywood.

According to Ikenta, he decided to leave the industry after what he called “cabals” and certain powerful producers allegedly began controlling who succeeded and who failed. He claimed these individuals referred to themselves as the “Nollywood Generals” and even saw themselves as the “lords” of the industry.

The actor alleged that many upcoming actors and filmmakers were expected to obey their instructions or risk being denied movie roles and opportunities to grow in the industry. He described the system as evil, oppressive, and contrary to the values he believed in.

Speaking passionately in the viral video, Ikenta said he chose to walk away rather than compromise his principles, adding that he believed darkness had taken over the industry at the time.

Despite his disappointment, the former child actor expressed hope for the future of Nollywood. He stated that a new generation of bold, talented, and upright producers is gradually emerging, and he believes they will help restore integrity, fairness, and professionalism to the Nigerian film industry.

His revelations have sparked conversations among movie lovers and industry stakeholders, with many sharing mixed reactions online. While some applauded him for speaking out, others argued that his claims reflect personal experiences and should not be used to judge the entire industry.
